Bird, a thoughtful 12-year-old, is becoming a woman whether she wants to or not.
During the worst week of her life, she gets her first period, is ditched by her impulsive, free-spirited mom, and learns that you can never really go back to the Valley. First-time writer/director Dorie Barton sets a lighthearted backdrop for this coming-of-age story, offering a sweet perspective on a universal, yet underrepresented experience. Starring indie film darling Jeremy Sisto (Clueless, Six Feet Under) and featuring a breakout performance by 11-year-old newcomer Jade Pettyjohn, Girl Flu is perfect for the whole family, even dads and daughters and mothers and sons (caveat: there is a scene with pot).
